BSc Economics and Law (combined)

Overview

The Bachelor of Law and Economics programme is a combined-major programme in which both Law and Economics are studied as major disciplines. The programme is relevant in providing rigorous analytical and legal skills for graduates. It will enable graduates as practitioners to have an impact on a wide range of socio-economic issues by applying economic reasoning in legal arguments. Thus, several sectors of the economy require the expertise of legal practitioners with an advanced background in economics. These capacities are crucial in formulating regulatory policies that will enhance a healthy interaction among individuals, firms and government.

The Bachelor of Law and Economics is purposely designed with a concentration in law and economics throughout the four-year degree programme. It seeks to connect the numerous interrelations and applications between the two disciplines.

The programme aims to produce high-quality graduates with a strong understanding of the relationship between law and economics and their application across various sectors of Ghana’s economy. It seeks to equip students with knowledge of how legal systems and institutions shape the economic well-being and development of the country, while also highlighting the strategic role of regulatory institutions in promoting economic stability in Ghana.

Entry requirements

Element	Requirement
WASSCE	Credits (at least C6) in three core subjects: English, Integrated Science and Mathematics, and three elective subjects in General Arts, Science or Business (aggregate 20 or better).
SSSCE	Credit passes (A–D) in six subjects comprising three core subjects: English, Integrated Science and Mathematics, plus three other subjects.
GCE A-Level	Passes in three GCE A-Level subjects or equivalent in Arts or Science, plus credits in at least five GCE O-Level subjects including English, Mathematics and a Science subject (for non-science students) and an Arts subject (for science students).
HND	HND with at least Second Class Lower Division and credits at WASSCE/SSSCE in three core subjects and three electives, or five credits at O-Level (including English Language and Mathematics).
Post first degree	First-degree holders in any discipline. Applicants must write and pass an entrance examination and an interview.
