Background Introduction
Overview
The Bachelor of Law and Economics programme is a combined-major programme in which both Law and Economics are studied as major disciplines. The programme is relevant in providing rigorous analytical and legal skills for graduates. It will enable graduates as practitioners to have an impact on a wide range of socio-economic issues by applying economic reasoning in legal arguments. Thus, several sectors of the economy require the expertise of legal practitioners with an advanced background in economics. These capacities are crucial in formulating regulatory policies that will enhance a healthy interaction among individuals, firms and government.
The Bachelor of Law and Economics is purposely designed with a concentration in law and economics throughout the four-year degree programme. It seeks to connect the numerous interrelations and applications between the two disciplines.
The programme aims to produce high-quality graduates with a strong understanding of the relationship between law and economics and their application across various sectors of Ghana’s economy. It seeks to equip students with knowledge of how legal systems and institutions shape the economic well-being and development of the country, while also highlighting the strategic role of regulatory institutions in promoting economic stability in Ghana.

Entry requirements

| Standard entry | WASSCE/SSSCE: credit passes in six subjects — three core (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies) plus three relevant electives — with an aggregate of 24 or better (WASSCE grades A1–C6 / SSSCE A–D). GCE: credit passes in five O-Level subjects (including English and Mathematics) and passes in two–three A-Level subjects. Mature applicants (25+): entrance examination and/or interview. |
