Overview
The BSc. in Economics with Computer Science is a single-major programme with Economics as the major and Computer Science as the minor. The programme is designed to enhance the analytical, quantitative, and technical skill sets of students pursuing economics by equipping them with fundamental computing and programming competencies.
The programme also addresses existing skills gaps within Ghana’s developing and increasingly technology-driven economy. As businesses, institutions, and governments continue to rely on data science, digital technologies, and economic modelling to support planning and decision-making, there is a growing demand for professionals with expertise in both economics and computing.
The programme further aligns with the mandate, mission, and niche area of Central University, which seeks to strengthen its position in the applied sciences through innovative and interdisciplinary education. In line with this vision, the Department of Economics and Development Studies will collaborate with the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology to equip students with the requisite technical, analytical, and professional skills needed to meet contemporary national and global demands.

Entry requirements

| Standard entry | WASSCE/SSSCE: credit passes in six subjects — three core (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies) plus three relevant electives — with an aggregate of 24 or better (WASSCE grades A1–C6 / SSSCE A–D). GCE: credit passes in five O-Level subjects (including English and Mathematics) and passes in two–three A-Level subjects. Mature applicants (25+): entrance examination and/or interview. |
