The BSc in Economics with Law is a single-major programme in which Economics serves as the major field and Law as the minor. The programme is designed to enhance the analytical and legal skills of graduates in economics with a background in law. Students will be able to apply fundamental legal knowledge to improve relevant policy decisions and implementation. The role of regulatory institutions in promoting efficient functioning of the market system is evident in practice and in the literature.
The BSc. in Economics with Law is strategically designed to emphasise the analytical and legal skills acquisition of learners. Students will take courses in two disciplines throughout the four-year degree programme – economics as a major from the Department of Economics & Development Studies and a minor in law from the Faculty of Law, to fulfil the requirements for the award of the degree.
Economists trained with a law background in Ghana are few. Given the growing scope of economic activities with associated conflict of interest among market agents, the role of economists with fundamental knowledge in law cannot be overemphasised. Training students with such expertise will enable a better definition and allocation of property rights for a smooth operation of the market.
