Overview

A five-year degree in the art and science of designing buildings and the built environment, blending theory with design-studio practice from freehand sketching to computer-aided design.

Graduates progress toward professional architecture practice, design, construction management and the wider built-environment professions.

Standard entry

WASSCE/SSSCE: credit passes in six subjects — three core (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies) plus three relevant electives — with an aggregate of 24 or better (WASSCE grades A1–C6 / SSSCE A–D). GCE: credit passes in five O-Level subjects (including English and Mathematics) and passes in two–three A-Level subjects. Mature applicants (25+): entrance examination and/or interview.

Careers

Graduates may work as architectural consultants; as specialists in building maintenance, conservation and restoration; as design and building contractors; as consultants in community planning; and as interior designers or landscape architects. The same programme describes that work as plans and designs for homes, offices, retail stores and other structures, including new communities and educational, healthcare and shopping facilities, with attention to sustainable design. After the professional examinations, graduates may form their own consultancies.
