BA Guidance and Counselling

Overview

Guidance and counselling at Central combines two related crafts: guidance that gives clear information and direction (especially in education and careers), and counselling as a therapeutic process that helps people work through personal, emotional, behavioural and psychological challenges.

What sets this BA apart is four distinct specialisations — Family Counselling, Career Counselling, Addiction Counselling, and Crisis and Trauma Counselling — so you can train against the problems Ghanaian families, schools and communities actually face.

The aim is practical and humane: graduates who can support the traumatised, help rehabilitate addiction, counsel people in crisis, intervene in family distress, and strengthen the foundations of healthier relationships and communities.

Accreditation: GTEC institutional accreditation. Professional counselling practice may require additional licensing or supervision depending on your workplace — confirm with the relevant body.

How you’ll study

Specialisation pathways. You build a shared counselling foundation, then deepen one of four areas: family, career, addiction, or crisis and trauma — including contemporary issues such as behavioural addictions and modern intervention approaches.

Practice orientation. The programme prepares you for professional and community settings: churches and other faith communities, hospitals, schools, courts, community programmes and alternative dispute resolution environments.

Professional formation. Didactic teaching is paired with supervision-minded training and professional socialisation so that theory, ethics and practice travel together.

Entry requirements

Element	Requirement
WASSCE / SSSCE	Standard University undergraduate entry: credit passes in six subjects including English and Mathematics, with electives suited to the programme. Confirm aggregate rules with Admissions.
Mature applicants	Age and entrance assessment routes as published for FASS undergraduate programmes.
Other routes	Equivalent qualifications assessed under GTEC guidelines for international and transfer applicants.
