Master of Public Health

Overview

Central’s Master of Public Health is built to produce health professionals who can promote healthy populations and improve care for people and communities — not only for the clinic, but for the systems around it.

The curriculum takes a multidisciplinary view of health promotion, disease prevention and community development, with particular attention to deprived and vulnerable communities in Greater Accra and across Ghana. Teaching and research are meant to leave graduates able to lead public-health work with competence and integrity.

On graduation you are prepared to practise as an allied health professional in healthcare, research, regulation and industry — in Ghana and internationally — with a community perspective on health and an eye on emerging practice.

How you’ll study

Duration and delivery. The programme is offered as a weekend session at Christ Temple Campus and is designed for completion in about 18 months — suited to working health and development professionals.

What you learn. You build knowledge and competencies in public-health principles and practice: designing and implementing sustainable interventions, applying ethically sound leadership in community health, and extending learning through electives, field experience, research and dissemination.

Who it serves. The intake typically includes MoH/GHS professionals, environmental and development officers, public-health nutritionists, allied health staff, biomedical scientists, psychologists and researchers in medical, industrial, pharmaceutical, and food and nutrition institutions.

Academic entry	A good first degree in a relevant health, science or development-related field from a recognised institution, as assessed by the School and Graduate Studies.
Professional profile	Practitioners and officers in health, environment, sanitation, nutrition, allied health and related research are the core target group.
